This week on the Digital Coffee ☕️
Question of the day: Do you look at notifications more than the feed?

f8 special. What’s new on Facebook and Instagram after Facebook’s big developer conference.

Facebook redesign

  • App rolling out now
  • Website rolling out later this year
  • Groups tab
  • Groups are all over notifications
  • More groups in feed
  • I’m still seeing page posts and post from friends
  • As we’ll see Facebook expects us to engage with our friends in messenger
  • This is a public hang out space more so now
  • They need to keep the space for ads so it’s not dead

Instagram donation sticker

  • 100% of the money goes to the non-profit
  • US only at the moment

New look Instagram camera

  • ‘create mode’
  • Can create without an image
  • Designed to make it easier to use creative tools and stickers

Instagram Shop For Creators

  • Creators can make their images shoppable
  • Interested to see how this works from a transparency point of view

Messenger desktop apps

  • Allowing chat and video calls
  • Coming soon

Co-watching video in messenger

  • Like watch parties but with video calling
  • Would love this for group chats
  • Would love this on main app

Businesses will be able to get bookings through messenger

  • And more templates like this directly from Facebook

Close friends tab

  • Makes content big and engaging
  • Isn’t this just like newsfeed displayed differently (and all private)
  • So what is newsfeed for (public space only) this will have an impact on reach in the feed

Changes coming to messenger marketing

  • No more broadcasts unless you are approved for subscription messages
  • Sequences and sponsored messaging still available
  • I think this is a good thing…
